Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “önemsiz sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine demetlanmasıyla oluşan güdük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lakırtııntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]

Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit zir birimi çitndırır). Gerçek ayrım peptitlerin güdük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]

Protein sentezi sırasında her amino asit, sair amino asite ötümlü, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle demetlanır. Polipeptid kuruluşsına yeğinlan amino asitlerin her biri kuruluşya peptid demetlarıyla demetlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir ab çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]

Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, kestirmece 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine yeğinlan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, degaje amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin sair ucundaki degaje α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
